About - Mila Agirre Photography and Digital Art

My first camera was a Point and Shoot, very simple and far from the sophisticated settings of my later SLRs. Probably this simplicity was fundamental in letting me focus on what I believe is the key of photography: the composition.

Soon I got an analogic SLR and I learned the basic skills of photography. I fell in love quickly with digital photography because I had the feeling it opened a gateway to a new stage with plenty of possibilities to innovate.

The accessibility to new technologies has democratized photography. This is a great challenge because most customers know something about photography. Professionals have to improve skills to add value to our images.

I am a lawyer and a Licentiate in East Asian Studies. It sounds like a peculiar background for a photographer but I strongly believe every of these different disciplines have added value to my personal conception of the visual arts.

Proud of being a Basque, I appreciate the advantages of globalisation which bring closer different cultures. I’m a versatile photographer who enjoys the experiences of travel photography, the empathy of portraits and the detail of macro photography. When I need to travel over the real world borders I become a digital artist and run through my imagination, to dream a fantasy world full of color and beauty.

My first exhibitions were basically in the Basque Country. I remember with special love the exhibitions in Gasteiz to support Bultzain, a local NGO that helps homeless and the exhibition in Barakaldo, my birthplace. From there, I had the priviledge to meet photographers from other countries and contribute to international projects like Frozen Kids. A documentary project.

At the beginning of 2014, Mona Youssef Gallery invited me to exhibit my artwork internationally. At the end of 2014, I opened my own Art Gallery in Gasteiz (Basque Country).  Since 2015, my artwork  has been included in Abartium Collection.
